A daily routine for mechanical neck pain
Educational video from Dr. Jalil Emad's website
This video walks through a whole day from the neck's point of view: close to nine minutes of pictures and plain explanation. It starts with how mechanical neck pain builds and what a forward head position loads onto the vertebrae, then works through four parts of the day in order: morning, midday, evening and night.
🎯 Who is this video for?
- Anyone bent over a desk or a phone for hours whose neck and shoulders feel heavy by the end of the day.
- Anyone who wakes with a stiff neck that does not loosen until midday.
- Anyone who drives long distances and finishes every trip with a tired, sore neck.
- Anyone who blames the pillow or their sleeping position without knowing which choice is the right one.
The four parts follow the hours of the day. Each one changes a single small habit, and together those small habits take the load off the neck.
📚 The written guide that goes with it
To find out which movement suits your symptoms, how much and how often to do it, and when to stop, read the written neck guide:

📝 What the video covers
- Morning, waking and stretching safely: getting out of bed without twisting the neck, which means rolling to the side in one piece and pushing up with the hands, plus two short movements that wake the deep muscles at the front of the neck.
- Midday, ergonomics and moving at work: what a forward head position loads onto the cervical vertebrae, and why short muscles at the back of the neck together with weak deep muscles at the front, a pattern called upper crossed syndrome, end in spasm. It then shows how to set up the screen, the chair and the desk.
- Evening, moving and driving: what a two-strap backpack does for the spine that a one-shoulder bag does not, and how to set the head restraint, the seat angle and the hands on the wheel for a long drive.
- Night, sleeping ergonomics: pillow height for sleeping on the back and on the side, how the common pillow materials differ, and why sleeping face down turns the neck and irritates it.
Numbness, pins and needles or weakness in the arm, pain after a blow or a crash, fever, unintended weight loss and a sudden severe headache are warning signs: do not wait with those. This video does not replace an examination and a diagnosis.
